The Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) was set up by the Government of India in 1962, with the aim to make India a powerhouse in space research and development. With the visionary Dr. Vikram Sarabhai at its helm, INCOSPAR  set up the Thumba Equatorial Rocket launching station in Thiruvananthapuram for upper atmospheric research. He identified the role and importance of space technology in a nation's development, and thus the Indian Space Research Organisation, formed in 1969, provided the necessary direction to function as an agent of development. Since then, ISRO has achieved remarkable achievements from the very first completely designed and fabricated spacecraft Aryabhatta to Chandrayan and to the recent Mangalyaan.

Sixty years ago, in a small fishing village called Thumba, Kerala, a handful of scientists and engineers converted a church into a space lab with a common goal of achieving the unthinkable. And thus began India's space saga. Thereon, the Indian Space Research Organization has come a long way and this artwork speaks of that story, a glorious journey which includes the Sounding Rocket, The Aryabhatta spacecraft, the diligent employee carrying a rocket nose cone on a bicycle with Dr. Vikram Sarabhai with YJ Rao examining the Rh75, a small tribute to more unpredictable victories, celebrations and milestones to come in India's space story.
